Dance studio in Heidelberg & East Ivanhoe

STUDIO V was established in 2001 by Vassie Catalano (SFD) (ASFD).

In 2018 Studio V will be celebrating 18 years of dance. Our objective is to teach every child, teen and aspiring artist about the beauty of dance, whilst developing their coordination, rhythm and confidence, within a fun and friendly environment.

All of our students have the opportunity to participate in class work, examinations, competitions, conventions, productions, summer school programs and our annual end of year concert.

Our teachers come from different training backgrounds, are fully qualified, have Working With Children certificates and are committed to the STUDIO V objective. Each teacher brings with them their own unique style and industry experience, and ensures that all tuition complies with the safety regulations of Ausdance and the Southern Federation of Dance syllabus.

STUDIO V is a member of the Southern Federation of Dance, a non-profit organisation developed in Australia dedicated to excellence in dance and dance teaching. All of our students practise the SFD syllabus. Syllabus styles include: Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Fusion. We also offer classes in Hip Hop, Production, Acrobatics and VCE Dance (Units 1 – 4).

Studio V strives for excellence, nurturing and motivating its students to achieve their goals and reach their full potential.

Classes are designed to develop, challenge and extend students, supporting those aspiring to professional careers in the performance arts as well as those who dance for fun, fitness or just for the love of dance.

VASSIE CATALANO Principal of Studio V School of Dance …

“Dance is an art that always evolves; even professionals are still learning and trying to perfect their technique. Dance is a long term commitment with many rewards along the way.”

BA-MS, Cert IV-HR, SFD Ausdance & APRA member

Vassie began dancing at 9 years of age, and discovered what became a life long passion! Whilst Classical Ballet was an integral part of Vassie’s dance training, Jazz Ballet was her real strength, winning the SFD Major Jazz Scholarship in 1998. Vassie’s dedication to dance lead her to complete her Teachers Certificate with the SFD in 1998.

Since then Vassie has worked at numerous dance schools in Melbourne, including the fulltime dance academy at Dance World 301. Vassie also worked in television commercials and programs, film clips and modelled for print magazines during this time, before she commenced Studio V.

Vassie completed a Bachelor of Media Studies and Certificate IV in Human Resources and spent over a decade working at Sensis (a previous subsidiary of Telstra) in various HR and Customer Centre Managerial positions, before deciding it was time to solely focus her energy on her true passion of teaching dance. Vassie opened the doors of Studio V School of Dance in 2001, with the goal of offering all styles of dance to junior and senior students and to share her passion with others.

Over the years, Vassie has worked with many highly talented industry professionals and has watched many of her students go on to pursue fulltime professional dance. The teaching faculty at Studio V are all professionally trained dancing teachers, who all share in the same vision and purpose.

“Dance teachers want to see their students succeed beyond their expectations. We cannot make students work hard, dedication is something they have to find for themselves. Teachers can only give them all of their knowledge, information and time and try to inspire them to do their best. What they do with all of it afterwards is totally up to them, it’s all about attitude.”

In 2018 Studio V celebrated 18 years of dance, and looks forward to sharing the magic of dance with young enthusiasts for many more years to come.
